Listen, every girl/woman needs a little something in their closet that can spice up a look with the snap of two fingers. No, I’m not talking about lingerie (let’s save that for another post). I’m talking about an accessory of sorts that can change your entire look from casual to formal, from classy to sexy or even from sophisticated to EDGY! Do you have one of those accessories? To many, they’d say that item would be a stylish leather jacket. If you can recall me mentioning how I love creating outfits starting with shoes, then on up to the outfit. It’s my way of setting the tone. I like to look at the shoes as the cherry on top. But when you eat your sundae, the cherry is usually the first thing you take it… or consume, if you will. I selected these beautiful suede booties with rivets tracing the sole of the shoe. I absolutely knew a leather jacket and a leather tote was needed. I either wanted the jacket to have studs/rivets or the bag or clutch needed to some how stand out in some way. The perfect thing about tulle skirts is if you don’t like the length of long skirts, you can adjust them yourself by trimming from the hem. Only if you know what you’re doing, of course. This skirt is layered with tulle, so you’ll be able to hide slight mistakes, but don’t go on a spazzing cutting bonanza. The skirt, being high waisted, looks great with a cropped top or even a loose fit t-shirt. I selected this ribbed crop jumper with a mock neck just incase a necklace or something was worn around the neck. In fact, a cute scarf looks pretty and adds a touch of sophistication back into the edgy look. The scarf can be worn in several perfect places (with this outfit) if you are one who doesn’t like too much around the neck. I particularly love wearing scarves around my wrist, neck and arm. Make this outfit ours. Try adding more pieces like a chain bracelet to wear around the wrist (which looks nice when the scarf is worn in addition).
Are you still looking for essential pieces to add to your Autumn collection? Recently, I donated the bulk of my closet and kept about 15% to myself. Let me tell you, there were still pieces in there that I wore in college and it was time for me to get rid of it. I think I just got comfortable in my clothes because they are casual, trendy and easy of throw on. Yeah, I got way too comfortable, LMAO. It’s always easy to pick and choose items for other people, but when it came to doing me… I took the backseat instead of shotgun. Most items went to a local women’s shelter, while the other went to Goodwill. This gave my closet some extra room and opportunity to rebuild to better collection that matches my current style and mood. With the things that I did keep, it makes for a great foundation to an banging wardrobe. Are you wondering how to transform your warbrobe, but need the basics? Here are a few pieces that are great to start out with if you are building from scratch or just adding to freshen things up.
1 | DENIM JACEKT
Everything closet for men and women, need this one accessory. Denim jackets look great when worn with a casual outfits. I have two denim jackets: light stonewashed and dark. They are perfect for a quick throw-on and can be worn daily, with just about any outfit.
2 | THICK NAVAL STYLE PEACOAT
One of this season’s trending items, the navy coat is an absolute fav of mine and has always had a place in my closet since I can remember. For the areas that are a bit colder than others, the peacoat comes in handy because of the double breasted feature. As I kid, I just knew in my mind, the reason it was double breasted was to block your chest from the cold. I was pretty smart… I still think the same to this day, in fact. I’ve never really researched to see why it is, but that’s my opinion I’ve lived with. If anyone else has their take on it, please share. I’d love to hear your view.
3 | SLINKY BRALETTE (BRALET)
Do you have any bralettse (bravest) yet? If you don’t, you should. You can wear them just like a regular bra and cover it up, you know… the boring way or you can wear them like a bra and show it off. Wait, let me say this first. If you select one that is completely lace, you may want to go ahead of cover up those nips before stepping out. If you have the styles that are opaque, wearing these tops with deep V neck t-shirts or with cardigans and wraps look pretty cute. I have to types: lacey and satin and I really love them. They are a little less annoying because there isn’t a underwire (you may find some that have underwire though).
4 | MOCK OR TURTLE NECK DRESS
Oh there is something sexy about a form fitting ribbed or jersey dress. I’ve featured these dresses in a couple of fashion inspirational posts and the styling was absolutely gorgeous. I’ve paired them with hooded jackets, denim jackets, sneakers, knee high boots and booties… you can do just about anything. I own two of these dresses, one with a slit up the side and the other that doesn’t. You can wear this dress year around. For cooler seasons, try layering this dress with knee high boots, a sleek peacoat and slouchy scarves. For the warmer seasons, wear the dress solo with flats or sandals with your choice of accessories.
5 | KNEE HIGH BOOTS
Not so much the thigh high boots, even though they are positively one of the sexiest items every woman must have. This can be flats, wedged or heeled. I, for one, love a good 4 to 4.5 inch heel with a platform. I usually tell women, if you’re the type that can’t take too much pressure on the ball of your feet for long periods of time and love your high heels, invest in platformed heels. Platforms give you the extra cushion that regular soled heels don’t. Think of this… if you were to step on a rock, with regular soled heels… you would be able to feel everything beneath your feet and to be honest, I hurts something serious when you are strutting and it comes out of nowhere. Oh it’s happened to me and I’m sure LOTS of ladies out there hundreds of times.
6 | SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED TOTE
Ok, raise your hand if you are one of those ladies that LOVE an extra large handbag, but are guilty of only carrying lipgloss, wallet and your phone in it… *raises hand* LMAO. I am sooo not embarrassed to say that I love large bags, but only find it necessary to carry little to nothing in it. If you are like me, but still want to set your outfit, grab yourself and small to medium sized bag of that same bag you just have to have. Many designers design smaller versions of their bags for this same purpose. Listen, I may have some other items in my bag floating around so I’d say medium to large would be a perfect fit for me. I so can’t wait to do a What’s In My Handbag video for you so you can see what I am talking about, LOL.
7 | SLOUCH FOLD OVER CLUTCH
You absolutely need something like this, like right now! This style clutch can be dressed up or dress down and you know, I’m all about versatility. When choosing the right fold over clutch, make sure to select something with extra side pockets inside with zippers. Once upon a time, I bought a clutch that had the open slip pockets and forgot to close my bag. Long story short, while it was sitting on my lap and I stood up, everything can pouring out the opened because I totally forgot to close the exterior zipper *mad face* The moral is… make sure you have enough room and INTERIOR ZIPPERS!
8 | SUPER CUTE WIDE BRIM HAT
One of my favorite designers is Janessa Leone. These can be worn year around and look great with just about anything. I, particularly love the Bohemian style and this brand fits in great if you’re looking for that perfect accessory.
It was great well it lasted. Today is the last day of Blogtober and I wanted to end it with a mini-shoot of my #ootd. I decided it would’ve been lovely to do a shopping post, but there was an evaluation in the city due to a fire. I was not about to sit in traffic with no way of getting off this island… so I remained put.
Today, I wanted something light of flowing on the skin since the weather decided to skip backwards into summer. The chiffon shorts were so comfortable, I barely noticed it touching my skin, it was so soft. I wore them with a pair of Michael Kors knee high boots and a form fitting black blazer. A trick I love to use to keep my boots from looking dull is gently massaging a dab of coconut or tea tree oil on a damp clothing to restore it’s light shine. I’ve used this many of times when merchandising and setting up displays. The perfect time to do this is after you’ve worn it a few times, then repeatedly keep up with buffing after several wears.
Have a great Monday!
One thing I love to do when creating my graphics, is to share with you what my favorite item is by placing a heart on the item. On this post, I am completely in love with the off-the-shoulder feature. I’ve been wearing these since I can remember, Even if the sweatshirt or tee wasn’t intended on being an OTS, I somehow end up rocking it this way. I am one of many who love to show off the collar bone because they’re so defined and seriously love my shoulders. Ok, so enough, lmao. Since we are still in the weekend, I wanted this look to be as chill and not complicated at all. My weekender looks usually contain denim or workout wear, FYL
Well, I’m going to keep it short today and I hope you’re enjoying your weekend like I am.
