It’s a new week and new weeks come with new goals. What better way to do so than with new exercise routines and new opportunities. Recently, I decided to join in on the fun and take the @brittnebabefitness 21-Day Challenge (which for me, started one week ago Feb 20th) being held on IG and on her website. From my understanding, you can still challenge yourself, but the contest is locked. Definitely, go by to check everything out to make sure and challenging yourself regardless.
If there is one thing I try to do when it comes to my daily routine, it would be eating balanced meals to work for my body type for someone living the vegetarian lifestyle. When it comes to my food, I always try to make it a point to expand my palette and explore cuisines of different cultures. I first fell in love with papayas when I visited Costa Rica… Tamarindo to be exact. I never tasted mangos until it was introduced to me in San Juan. If I could get my hands on some Dragon Fruit, I’d be on happy camper.
Most of these fruits, anyone can get their hands on by visiting their local farmer’s market, Trader Joe’s (where I usually purchase my organic foods), Whole Foods or Earth Fare. I try to stick with natural and organic foods to avoid GMOs, pesticides and all those nasty little man-made organisms. Before cutting or peeling anything, please remember to wash your hands and fruits thoroughly.
Here’s a quick snack for you that can be shared between two people or saved for the day after. You’ll need:
Papaya half (organic, sliced)
1/2 cup of Blueberries (organic)
One Mango (organic, sliced)
One Banana (organic, sliced)
Chia Seeds (optional)
This will end up making a medium bowl of fruit salad. After cutting, store in the refrigerator covered with Saran Wrap.
*FOR BEST RESULTS, KEEP COOL OR REFRIGERATED. I ALWAYS EAT MY FRUIT SALAD BY THE SECOND DAY BECAUSE THE PAPAYAS AND BANANAS GET SOFT. ALSO, THE PIGMENT OF THE BLUEBERRIES WILL DYE THE FRUITS DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF TIME ITS LEFT IN STORAGE.
Remember when I said “I can’t wait for Fall/Winter to comes so I can…” last year? I take that back. I could’ve waited and in fact, I’m just about over it, lmao. The only thing I will say that I enjoyed the most is the amount of sweaters I purchased and sporting the “lounge-y look” in public. I’m so ready for the new collections and styles coming out for Spring ’17, like flowy rompers, nautical stripes, slit sleeves and shirt dresses. Not to mention, but I will, more strappy lace up sandals and heels.

1. MY EXISTENCE ON EARTH IS NOT BY MISTAKE, BUT BY PURPOSE
I know, in some way shape or form, my existence serves some sort of purpose to this world. None of us are ever quite sure as to our being, but one thing is for certain… we feel as though once we have reached or touched a large group of people… it be through volunteering, serving and helping or coaching, that we have served a purpose. Every chance I get, I try to help, guide or even be the figure they confide in. I definitely see myself working and volunteering with young women who have a passion for design: art, music, acting and fashion.
2. EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT
I few months ago, I put a personal quote on twitter/instagram that said:
“One thing I have learned throughout life is there’s ALWAYS a solution to a problem. Having the patience to go through them all is the hard part.”
I am not one to put my problems online for the world to display. I’ve had some struggles in my life that I went through, some where most people would give up or result in retaliation. I’ve lost friends. I literally hit rock bottom so hard, I split the surface’s floor. Doing this time, I lost friends then gained better ones. I quit a job then got offered a better one. Here’s the thing, your overall success depends on if you see the glass half full or half empty. Even with the direction OUR country is heading, with so much hate and division… I’m quite certain that with time, comes change. It saddens me that my people are being effected the most. The saddest part is, we won’t be the only one’s. Hearing about this ban to enter OUR country is only the tip of the iceberg. How does someONE reject another because of their religion and/or nationality? I can get more in depth in a later post because I am so passionate about equality and rights to humanity. One thing that kept me motivated and focused was the fact that I knew for sure NOTHING was going to happen to me. Absolutely NOTHING. As sure as I am a black woman, I just knew everything would be alright.
3. MAKEUP CAN’T COVER UP AN UGLY PERSONALITY
An old friend named Natasha once told me, “you know ugly when you see ugly.” Boy was she right, lmaooo. Then through back then in the 7th grade, she was talking about someone she didn’t care too much for, she was on to something. As a kid, I was always in my head… wondering how this worked and wondering why things worked this way instead of that way. I was very bright. Even as a 7th grader, I thought more into that statement that I probably should have and at that age, I began to not only notice the mean and nasty people… I also started recognizing the ugly ones as well. I also noticed it takes more strength to be a negative, angry, classless, unattractive person. No matter how much work you put in, as long as your attitude stinks those around you will smell it and will try their hardest to stay away from you.
Guess what? This weather is crazy! From now on, I’m going to stop questioning it and start enjoying Mother Nature’s spontaneity… with a smile. Today’s temperature reached as high as 74 °F and I was absolutely pleased. When you stay by several beaches, you appreciate days where you can actually play in the water rather than freeze in it. Well while many are still freezing, I had the opportunity to go out on the marina to take in the weather.
